3. There might be a lump of loose substrate if the frog is burrowed. But i dont know how else to tell. They sometimes burrow when the get cold (im guessing, and i read that somewhere too). My whites tree frog burrowed (just like half of his body) once and his head was poking out and theni turned on the lamp and within a few minutes he jumped out. Hope i helped
