Is too much substrate bad?
Hey guys,
My pyxie is about 2 1/2 months old and a little over 3" ( eyesight measure) but in this last cleaning I decided to add around another 2 inches of substrate so he can fully burrow( around 3-4 inches of substrate depth now). Now he went under on Sunday noon and it's already Tuesday and he's still there and has not eaten at all since his last feeding on Saturday night. Temperatures and humidity are spot on all the time....is this normal behavior for such a young frog? I have heard before that some young frogs might try to aesthivate if the habitat is rough but that's not the case here. So I was just wondering what you all more experienced froggers might think about this; it's just that he's so young and gone under for almost two days makes me wonder what's going on since he's never done that.
Also, is vinegar a good way to disinfect "furniture" inside the frogs tank? I use wipe out 1 for the tank itself but I was wondering if vinegar along with hot water would do it for the water bowl/plants etc?
Thanks!

To much substrate can be bad to a point. If given a lot the frog will do as yours has done and burrow to to bottom of the tank and remain there for a while. Maybe even begin to attempt aestivation which you don't want. I only provide enough for the frog to cover itself and no more.
Vinegar will work as a disinfectant. Rinse with hot water and wait until the smell is gone before returning anything to the tank.

Re: Is too much substrate bad?
Mine sits in his water bowl through the night then when morning comes he will bury himself because my night temps are too cold but when daytime comes he will come back up and have his head poking out of the substrate, then it usually all happens again.

Re: Is too much substrate bad?
Ok so I uncovered up to his head to make sure he was okay and after 5 mins he came out by himself.
I think what encouraged this behavior was the extra substrate, I was surprised he wasn't hungry after two days. I think he might be going through a phase...

Yea, I will update my post with some new pics soon. Head has gotten wider than it was before, so I hope it turns out male. At this point in life it can go either way.
