I was checking on the Surinam when i woke up, and saw him I think "attempt" to launch at the cricket I left in there last night. Do you think if its a bit bigger than him he wont eat? I was going to try putting in a smaller one.
The food item shouldn't be more than the width between its eyes is a general rule for crickets n locusts but then again some o them eat mice lol I think your better sticking to above rule when it's wee ones you've got

I thought it was.. whatever was about the size of its mouth. The eye-width rule sounds like something i've heard for bearded dragons.
Insects should be same size as distance between frog eyes and earthworms or their pieces same as frogs SVL. It's not only about fitting into their mouths; but also so frog does not get impacted with larger heads and other hard insect body parts.
Remember to take care of the enclosure and it will take care of your frog!
It's odd, I guess I can consider myself lucky, I've always fed my frogs prey less then the SVL, insects or earthworms, because by that rule, no frog should be eating large locusts or dubias.
I've fed all my frogs this way, and none of them ever had any problem with impaction, they all poop regularly and normal. Also, if feeding accoring to that rule, you'd have to add a ton of prey to the terrarium or feed for a long time. My teen male, is done in 3 minutes of eating, he is 8CM SVL and I feed him locusts with the wings cut off, he eats 3 of these every other day.
I've only had them for one night, tonight being the second. I called up and asked what they've been feeding him, they said frozen silver-side fish.
should i get him silver fish or not. some people say its good and bad. i tried feeding it a worm a few minutes ago again, it opened its mouth but i flinched in shock and it wouldnt take it after. >.<
I have tried 3 times for the night, like 3 hr intervals. Should I try silverside fish and see if I get any luck then?
I'm like that with one of my snakes, she's that fast n hard at striking I still jump a bit lol

Naw I would keep working with the worms. You can also try just dropping a squirmy worm infront of your frog then leaving for a little bit.
Normally it's considerd best to stick with what the frogs eat, but I'd steer clear of fish. Keep trying worms, he opend his mouth once, so he will again!![]()
Its been 2 nights since i got him and he hasnt ate. Unless he had that cricket i left in for him. Not sure if it escaped or he gobbled it down
Worms - no success. Silversides - instant bite reaction. And this time I was actually using tongs.
Hmm. I'm glad your little one ate. Keep working on the worms with tongs though.
Yeah, im hoping I can get him to switch to those soon, I just didn't want to go on for long without eating. And now it seems like the Cranwelli has taken the feeding habits of the Cornuta now. He's being the stubborn one today. >_<
