    Default Extra supplies...why not? :D

While waiting to purchase my big Exo terra I thought I'd whip up a new viv for my rescue red eyes . Nothing fancy, just fun . The one side needs another pot and the vines and silicone+substrate still need to be added also.

(Next will be the dart tank, as the pink foam shelves take longer to cut ).

    Messy, but fun!

    Top view...

    Front and side views...

The vines that we made will be added after the walls are siliconed...

    Enjoy!

The vines are simply braided nylon rope covered in silicone and dry substrate.

Thanks, Bill Ha ha!!! It was a quick put-together but fun. I figured, why not. Not fancy, but decent. Only took a couple hours to cut pink foam then just minimal to spray the rest.

(Still playing around with the dart tank.)

The foam has expanded nicely and has given more depth to the one above today. It is nearly dry. I'm thinking the inside will be dry by tomorrow. I'm going to flip it and add some to the other side tonight. I will probably silicone on Monday?

That look's great! I'm really interested in seeing how it turns out. What are your plans for the floor/substrate? I plan on doing something similar soon (for the first time) and was just curious.

knowing Heather, and looking at the design of the viv, i would venture a guess that she'll start off with an appetizer of about 1.5-2" of LECA, followed up with a palette cleansing separation material, for her main course, she'll be having about 3" of ecoearth or plantation soil with a water bowl on the side as her server, i would recommend she have the combo platter of 1.5" of peat moss and 1.5" of cocofiber to give the plants she'll plant in it a bit of nutrition

    am i close Heather? LOL

    Default Extra supplies...why not? :D

Ha ha! I'm not sure yet. It is a temporary home until I get my big tank, so I may keep it simple.

I have done false bottoms and they are easy and work well. The 55 I made a few years back was elbow PVC angles under eggcrate with 2 posterior draining holes, fiberglass mess sewed with fishing line to the eggcrate, aquarium gravel, peat moss, cocoa fiber substrate. It filtered the water so well that when I drained it out the port holes it smelled like fresh rain. I had springtails in my substrate as well.

I was actually thinking since my plants will all be in pots on the walls, that I might just be lazy and do the old brown paper towels as flooring. That way I can keep an eye on things. But, we'll see. I will still use the glass feeding bowl method also.

With all of the hot weather here the GS foam has cured amazingly fast. Today I'm just going to work on vines for the dart tank and consider where I'd like to place each plant on the wall. So many choices .
