White's Tree Frog & Earthworms?

Does anyone have an opinion on feeding earthworms to White's? Thinking of expanding my frog's diet from crickets (and the occasional mealworm), and wondering if this could be an additional choice. Any thoughts?

Hi Lisa, Ive heard people on this forum say they feed there frogs earth worms. I think its recommended to breed your own though. Im not sure if this is OK for White tree Frogs though. I cant see why not if they are the right size. I would get a second opinion first.

I second it! Earthworms are fine, I feed them to my Blackeyeds now and then to break up the routine.

Paul, Do you breed them your self or get them from your garden? Ive never used them myself but could add to my guys diet.

Just out of the garden as long as there are no fertilizers, pesticides, etc. If I started breeding worms on top of all the other critters I have my girlfriend would leave me.

I also use earthworms occasionally for my White's Treefrogs. I take them out of the garden (which has no pesticides or fertilizers, of course).

Thanks for the answers. My White's is full grown, and I feed him usually 3 times a week (7 - 10 large crickets per feeding). For those using worms ~ do you think it would be a problem to replace one of the cricket feedings with the worms? I've no idea of their nutritional value...or should these be used as "treats"? And how does one figure out how many worms to give? Amazing how much thought as to go into feeding a frog!

Earthworms have a favorable Ca:P ratio (2:1), also are very balanced when it comes to the other fat soluble vitamins such as A and E. They are fairly high in protein and low in fat. I would recommend one night crawler (the big earthworms) per feeding. That's what I have done for my White's and it seems to fill him up and keep him healthy. But again as others have said, be sure to obtain them from pesticide/fertilizer free soil.
