Hi everyone,
I just bought three fire-bellied toads a week ago and I did a lot of research before buying them. I went to Pet-smart to buy them and planned on getting two but they opened the tank to take them out and I was going to pick which one's when they moved a rock in the tank and there was one dead that looked to be in the tank that way for a while. There were 3 of them alive and there was no way I was leaving one in there by itself so I got all three.
I bought a ten gallon tank to house them and got ideas for how to set up the tank from various online sites. I have a land part with a cave type structure and sphagnum moss around it with other large rocks for a land area and the rest is water. They have not left the land part to go in the water. Is this common? Anyone else have this happen? Only one went in the water so far and that was not for long. Should I just get a water bowl rather than having the water as 60% of the tank? The water is not too deep it's 1-2 inches.
Also, I bought a fish tank with a hood and didn't realize there would not be enough ventilation and the tank keeps getting fogged up. I just ordered a screen for it. Can anyone suggest a type (brand and size) of lamp I could get to go with the screen?
Any help would be greatly appreciated. I think this is a great site and thank everyone for their previous postings which helped me decide to buy the little guys and how to take care of them
One thing that many people who keep frogs and toads are not aware of is that there are several species that enjoy basking in the sun. All species of FBT will like a low-wattage spot lamp directed to a particular area of the tank. Other than that, these are easy toads to take care of and will give you alot of enjoyment.

My fire bellies love their little basking spot. My tank is mostly aquatic with various islands they can climb out of the water on. For the most part they love the water section. What is the water temp? Are they eating and pooping? What is the room temp? Toadies are usually very easy to keep and very active. Mine are always exploring or hunting and call often.
