Default Mazuri High Calcium Cricket Diet: a Zookeeper's Thoughts

    Hi All,
My professional experience with captive reptiles, amphibians and other creatures extends back over 4 decades, with much of that time being spent at the Bronx Zoo. For the past 24 years, I’ve relied heavily upon Mazuri animal diets, as have many of my zoologist colleagues worldwide. From turtles to elephants and hamsters to cassowaries, Mazuri formulates more carefully-researched foods than does any other company. I recently had occasion to experiment with and read about Mazuri’s High Calcium Cricket Diet, and am quite pleased with the results. In the following article, I’ll also highlight some other useful products for crickets and similar feeder insects. Interesting product; but please note their own quote at Lynn's linked page: "This diet is to be fed to crickets in order to increase the calcium level of the gut-fill; this helps balance the calcium to phosphorus ratio of the crickets and other feeder insects when they are consumed by animals. This diet is not intended for use in breeding or raising crickets". So this is good to enrich with CA crickets being fed in 24 hours or so; and not to make them grow .
Remember to take care of the enclosure and it will take care of your frog !

Good point, thanks....I believe that is in response to past concerns over high-Ca diets; I've used long term w/o losses, but to be on safe side one could use a standard cricket diet or fish flakes with fruit/vegetables, etc. best, Frank
