Thread: C. Cornutas (Surinam) breeding?

    Exclamation C. Cornutas (Surinam) breeding?

I'm new to breeding pacmans, so i'm trying to do a bit of research way before taking on this challenge. I wanted to know how to start getting the frogs into the hibernating phase, and all the steps to lead into the breeding and care of the tadpoles. What would I need the bare minimum to keep the little ones alive and growing well? pretty much tell me all there is to successfully breeding these guys if you can! If there's already a thread/post for this sorry, a link would be great if there is!

You won't get an answer to this question. Breeders keep their methods secret and only share these skills with a predecessor or aprentice who will take over. The basics can be found in various books.

Breeding these frogs is VERY expensive. It costs $90.00 per day just to feed the tadpoles plus there is vast amounts of time in the entire process. Water for tadpoles has to be changed 100% daily and sometimes twice. They expire very easily when exposed to their own waste in the water and fouled water from left over food.

I myself have not attempted to breed yet, but I do know some breeders and this is not a cheap nor easy task.

Find these books and read them.

Horned Frogs by Philippe de Vosjoli

Frogs and Toads by Devin Edmonds

The Horned Frog Family and African Bullfrogs by R.D. Bartlett and Patricia Bartlett

Breeding and Keeping Frogs and Toads by W. P. Mara

    These books will assist you.

    Default C. Cornutas (Surinam) breeding?

I have vast amounts of time to put into breeding; why is it such a top secret to breed them??? People are so money hungry v.v forgetting the whole purpose of keeping them as pets.

Its a business not just to sustain the species. These are not endangered animals. They can be easily aquired aside from some of the more rare species. Breeders don't have pets per say, they have stock. Any business keeps their methods secret. After all they took the time , money, and effort to learn how to breed these animals and it is for profit and to fund the next spawn. You cannot get mad because they won't share what they've accomplished. It wasn't handed to them so they won't just hand it over to anyone. Do you understand what I mean?

Poliwag, do you have any experience with pacman frogs? I also plan to breed in the future, currently I have 2 years+ of experience with these frogs and plan to get atleast 10 more years under my belt before I even attempt it.
You need two healthy frogs, a rainchamber, a ton of space, money and time.

edit: yes Truffs, daily water changes, even twice a day as grif pointed out, and daily food. Also, you have to make sure you'l be able to sell your offspring, while 5 pacman frogs might be easy to sell, if you breed 150 cranwelli's, your going to be housing some of them for quite a while.... $_$

That is pretty much all the Horned Frog species. Ornates are near impossibe to get to breed naturally. Most are gotten in the mood by being injected with Hormones.

None , lol. Like I said, just trying to learn as much as I can before attempting; though with such little information out there, what much is there to really learn about breeding?

Ideas and knowledge that generate $$ are normally identified as "Intellectual Property" and are usually copyrighted. If you had a business that depended on a certain procedure; you or any smart entrepreneur would guard and protect that procedure .
Remember to take care of the enclosure and it will take care of your frog !

Off-topic question, is there any downfalls to having a FC pacman than a CB? Anything to look out for theoretically if I did have one?
