I just rememberd I heard about this a long time ago, before I even owned my first frog.
That you could basicly sex most pacmans looking at the slope of the upper lip. If the upperlip is more rounded, it is a female. If more steep, it is a male.
I'm not sure if it's a myth or not, all I know is it seems like one, because I've never heard it mentioned before on here.
I'm also not sure where I picked it up, it was a long time ago that I've heard it, and I'd love to know a final conclusion.
Also, looking at the two frogs I own so far, the theory adds up, but it could be random luck.
First one is a confirmed male, with a steep upperlip, second one would be a guessed male.
First one confirmed female, note the rounded upper lip. Second one guessed female.
If you have pictures of your frogs that debunk this theory, please link them! I'm also really curious to see if anyone else has actually heard of this theory.
Male here. Lets put this theory to the test.
Either way, scary luck so far.
So we are looking at round snout for females vs. Steep snout for males right?
Right, it appears to be that way. The picture is of my friends pacman, also has a steep upperlip and is a confirmed male.
Very interesting. Lets see if this theory proves true. Everyone post your pics plz!
I just found this link! Easy way to sex your Horned Frog. - talk to the frog, looks like it is a viable method! But not 100% accurate.
It seems there are exceptions to the rule. And you can't be 100% sure untill maturity. But, also mentioned on the topic is, that if you want a way to gamble, this is the way to go. Atleast according to Ed Clark.
I really hope this theory is spot on for me, since I really want my X-ta to be female, and if this pans out, I'l have 2 males and 2 females.
Definitely cool. I hope Gingerbread is a female though. I'm going to look at her snout
This shows female.
This shows male.
Seems she is a female, according to the theory, I checked out your old pictures.
And the theory seems to be, females have a more triangular snout while males have a flat one. So I'l be adjusting the topic title.
Edit: Can't adjust the title.
I can throw some more up top pictures too.
Confirmed male.
Unconfirmed baby.
Nuptial pads are the only 100% method(aside from calling). Some of us can take one look at the frog's skull shape and determine sex, but there are always exceptions to that rule. The angle of the snout method is wrong half the time.
Awww, while that's really dissapointing to hear, I'm glad you cleared that up Grif! Hopefully my presumed female will still turn out female though, and I'm also crossing my fingers for Dan.
I also did some research on the source from the website and after some extensive reading, have concluded it isn't that reliable either.
Well, it would seem that all frogs besides the joazeirensis are female.
If it turns out to be a female, I'm 75% right.
I have to admit, I had my doubts about the ornate, and I'm not just saying that. I can see what you mean though. I will think even though this method only has a 50% chance of being right, I'l be using it in the future, because if you have to gamble, it's better to have a system, even just as a tie breaker.
Sex this frog.
Well, the snout theory makes me believe female, so I'l go with male, just because I'm on to you.
