I brought home an ACF a while ago and after having him a few weeks discovered due to his skittishness he was not for me.
Should I ever try again? I like bold animals, or at least one I will see.
I have loved ADF for years but I know they are a lot more delicate.
If I did try again I was thinking of getting one from a breeder I know, who knows its personality and maybe getting two instead of just one.
Any thoughts?
You gave up too soon. They are skittish to sudden changes in light, movement, and sound but overall they are fairly active (for amphibians) and fun to watch.
My ACF always go nuts when I am near the tank wanting food. They become tame quickly if you give them time to adjust.
I am not a frog fan overall ... And not seeing it AT ALL did not help one bit. It would have been different if overall I had at least seen it.
I am thinking if I ever got another I would go older for sure.
But I like my lotls ... Are there ACF with lotl like personalities? If so I will take a couple of those :P
I've never kept an axolotl but in my experience young clawed frogs are shy and hide a lot. Adults swim around and are more curious and they most definitely will come up to you and beg for food.
I think you should just be more patient and let them develop their personalities more.
Patience is not an issue usually but when you don't even know if your pet is eating its not good.
Not sure what you mean. ACF are ravenous little eaters from day one.
Mine would not even come out to eat ... I NEVER saw it at all no matter how patient I was. Even food did not draw it out.
I had a male that was like that, caused himself to miss out in food and the female froglette that was with him grew way faster. He eventually caught on, but is still my smallest frog by far.
