Hello all!!! I am new to this forum and frog purchasing, keeping, etc. With that being said, I am a biologist and inventor with two US and Canadian Patents dealing with transport of wild and farm raised fish. I also researched and worked with endangered species seahorses and chameleons in the area of captive husbandry and breeding.
Not tooting my horn, just qualifying my previous experience. I sold and or donated animals, pics were always taken and sent of the animal that they would be receiving. I realize that sex is hard to determine with young frogs and froglets. I have been e-mailing a rather large and from what I can tell reputable breeder about the possible purchase of a thumbnail dart frog trio. These frogs are advertised to be five months of age and they are not cheap. I asked the breeder to please send me pictures of the animals that they would be sending me. The breeder stated that the picture that was e-mailed to me was representative of the species and that they do not send out individual pics. She sent a rather long explanation stating that removing them to photograph would cause undo stress. I have seen many other breeders post pics of actual animals with either coins in vivariums indicating size, coloration, etc. Since I am NEW to dart frogs, I am VERY uncomfortable purchasing sight unseen.
So, my question is this, is it industry standard for larger breeders to sell dart frogs sight unseen???? The only guarantee made by breeder is LIVE ARRIVAL! I welcome all responses. Thanks for reading.
