One thing about reed frogs that really captivates me are the large, black eyes. My first experience was with Heterixalus madagascarensis at the zoo. We had over 200 individuals in a large cage. When it was my turn to clean the cage, I could not believe it. It seemed that each one had a death wish and begin jumping crazily all over the cage and some even went down my uniform shirt. But it was their big, dark eyes that was the spookiest. Reed frog "poop" sticks to the sides of the cage like crazy glue.
