I just read that when your frog (reading about PDF's) poos it's just left for the woodlice and springtails to clean up as it enriches the soil. Is this true or do you still need to spot clean?

Hey, I'm of the mindset that one should always spot clean. Im sure the co-inhabitants would help with the waste but I sure don't want to rely on it and end up with diseased/dead frogs. I'm generally a gambling man but not when it comes to matters like these
See that's what I thought, I didn't like the idea of not spot cleaning.
How often do you do a full clean out? I was watching a setup video on LLLreptiles and the lassie on it says she has PDF setups that's never been fully cleaned in 2 years

nok1888 - you have good common sense
herpdoc- I agree, if you see a poop clean it.
A regular routine / cleaning scheduled should be maintained including glass, leaves etc.
You don't want your babies dragging themselves over feces. Yuck !

i keep leopard frogs so it's a different situation. i do weekly partial water change (between 1/3 to 1/2 volume), checking for stools periodically about 2x a day. i've also got a filter running a ton of aquatic plants (java moss, crytocprynes, etc) so that does help with ammonia levels. i dont actually do a total cleanout just this kind of maintenance. I should say that i siphon the gravel pretty well so that's probably why i could get away with doing it this way.
