Temperature is the key. I use a mixed bedding of rolled oatmeal and Gerber baby cereal (banana and oatmeal). Moisture is provided with potato chunks. once a week I sift out the castings and add a large handful of Cheerios to the mix. I use a small radiant (5 W) ceramic reptile heater in the box to maintain a temp of 92 F @ 25-40% humidity.
Their life cycle is about twice as long as "standard" meal worms.
I feel that mealworms are too nutritionally void to be used as anything more than a treat. However I have species of toads that consume various coleopterans in the wild as a staple. These large beetles from superworms help to round out the various beetle cultures I have going.
