i am just asking in general because if you have a 3 week old tad morph into a frog the frog will be small and weak and susceptible to succumbing to disease. and if you keep the water their in cool such as in a fridge around 45 degrees it will remain a tadpole for up to 2 years i was just wondering from your experience how long would you personally keep your tads in the larval state before you raise the temp on them for them to morph?

My tadpole already had its back legs when I got it, and it was pretty big. I raised the temp, and it morphed into a frog in about 3 weeks.

I've never raised a bullfrog tadpole from an egg.

I can post some pictures of My Bullfrog(Dwight).

There is a lot to know about this species and even someone who has raised 100 tadpoles still can learn a few things about them. the only tadpole i have that survived out of over 100 is the only one i put in the fridge for 6 months she was 6 inches long before i took her out and let her morph. all the others succumbed to stress and the infamous chytrid. My Ayra morphed about 18 months ago. not only is she my only survived American bull frog but she dwarfs all other frogs i have seen in the area. She is bigger then my cane toads right now. although my cane toads are not done growing she is still impressive and super healthy. I totally believe the amount of time i kept her as a tad had everything to do with why she is still with me and healthy.

Thanks. Did you raise her from an egg?

no i caught her as a tadpole the same way i did over 100 more. I read that frogs from the norther cooler area's produced the biggest American frogs in the country. because they remained tadpoles of 6 months on average and up to 2 years because of the cooler temps. So i thought i would give it a shot. I thought the fridge's temps would be to dangerous so i only tried with one. wish i would have done it with more of them now. She is about 6 1/2 inches from vent to snout now and she shows no signs of chytrid but i wouldn't doubt that she has it but she is much stronger then the rest so it has not shown its ugly face yet. In idaho i have seen a frog better then 9" from vent to snout. So i am assuming that frog spent much longer as a tadpole. just wondering if you have ever experienced this or have more knowledge about the subject.

    Sorry for the late response.

Dwight is actually the first bullfrog tadpole I've had that grew into a bullfrog.

The other ones died as tadpoles.
