Hi all!
Hope all you and your froggies are well!
My two White's are doing soooo well, and are really active right now.
I bought a new frog today, a Vietnamese blue tree frog. He's been in the pet store for many months and I've wanted him in aaaaages. The guys sold him to me for 1/2 price as no one had shown any interest in him. He's about 2", and very cute!! My knowledge on these guys is pretty basic. At the moment he's in a small tank with vines and leaves, but no water dish yet. I've put a small locust in with him (2 cm)
Sooo.... Do these guys need a water dish? Or will 2x daily spraying suffice?

Hi, this species has similar care requirements as the Whites Tree Frog. You need a bowl of fresh water in the enclosure. Misting 2X day is excessive. Once every other day is sufficient if you have good ventilation. Take what you need from the WTF care article and adapt it to your needs. Congrats on your new family member!![]()
Thanks Paul!
I mist my White's twice a day as the humidity in my terrarium often drops below 50%, so was thinking the same would apply for this lil' fella (who my daughter has name Pogo..... Poor thing!!)
Am off to find a little tub for him now, thanks again!
Congrats on your new addition. I'd love to see pictures.
Congrats on the new frog! I believe the taxonomic name on this frog is Rhacophorus dennysi, but I am not 100% sure. Whatever the real name is, its still a member of the family Rhacophoridae or Old World treefrogs.
Oh and its nice to see your smiling face again.
You're very welcome Katie. Kurt, I thought it was Rhacophorus dennysi also but was too chicken to say it firstbut now that you did, I agree

The Chinese flying frog, a rather large treefrog similar in size and appearance to Litoria infrafrenata, is also listed as Rhacophorus dennysi. I have also seen the name Polypedates dennysi for these two frogs. So my confussion is this, are they the same frog or is this a mislabeling by the reptile trade? They don't look like the same frog to me.
That's so cool Katie, cant wait to see the photo's. Congratulations.
You misunderstood me. Litoria infrafrenata is not confused with the Chinese flying frog or Vietnamese blue treefrog. I was just comparing L. infrafrenata to the Chinese flying frog as they are very similar in appearance, but not to the point that one would have trouble IDing one from the other.
The confusion comes from whether or not the Vietnamese blue treefrog and the Chinese flying frog are the same species, as I have seen both labeled Rhacophorus or Polypedates dennysi, even though neither looks like the other.
Yes I got turned around, getting late. I don't know how to answer that either. Yet![]()
Here is the best I can get for now. I know you know this already but these two are synonyms for the Chinese Gliding Frog, which looks very similar to a Whites Tree Frog. We already knew that too.
If we accept this as settled we can try and unravel the Vietnamese Blue Tree Frog problem.
I found reference that suggests this is a Vietnamese captive bred Chinese Gliding Frog. The problem is they don't look the same, as you mentioned. The only other thing I can find is that R.dennysi and P.dennysi both mean Chinese Gliding Frog however, Vietnamese Blue Tree Frog points to nothing except what people selling and buying them are calling them, P.dennysi. If I strip out the trade references and try to find it's Taxonomy it doesn't exist. At this point I have to believe it is a hybrid or color morph of something that has been artificially created for the pet trade and has yet to be identified. Sorry but this is as close as I can get with the lack of information to be had. Have you found anything else that I may have missed?
I did a little internet research last night, and I too couldn't find a definate 'proper' name for this little guy.
I'm going to get some pictures as soon as I can get rid of my OH as he doesn't know I've bought him yet...... I managed to sneak him into the house and set up a tank without him noticing! Don't think I'd get away with doing a photo shoot without OH noticing!!! Muahahahaha!!!!!
Oh and Kurt, my smiling face has missed you all very much!!![]()

I did manage to get a couple of pictures of the lil' fella. Just need to find my card reader now.... Sorry! I'm useless!!! Haha
He is a very attractive frog, nice lime green at the moment. Healthy looking, hasn't eaten yet but I'm guessing he'll need time to settle in properly. Have popped 2 very small locusts in his tank. And a water dish. Hoping he'll be happy with me......
Paul, you more than me at this point. I think you meant to say is that the white-lipped treefrog, Litoria infrafrenata looks like the Chinese flying frog and not the White's. My best guess is that maybe the Vietnamese blue is either a juvenile of R. dennysi or a completely different species all together. Time to hit the books, but sadly I do not have field guides for Asia.
