A few more newby questions

1. So Camo Frog got too big for his water dish already. It was made for hermit crabs and had a very textured feel to it and a little fake tree on it. I think he liked the traction it provided. I gave him a new dish (reused container top) that measures about 4" across and 1/4" deep and he has not used it in over 1.5 weeks. He used to use is palm-tree one almost every other night. What do you use for your frogs' in-tank water dish? Please be specific with name of products or pictures.

2. Camo Frog is about 2.5" long and wide now. He will eat 3 medium nightcrawlers per day if I let him. Should I cut back at all? He refuses crickets now that he has been introduced to nightcrawlers.
3. Also nightcrawlers get covered in eco-earth while he his eating them. Is this a concern? Should I move him into a separate feeding container during meal time? He hates being handled. I picked him up today to soak him and he made clicking sounds but still ate the worm I offered while he was in there.
4. If he is to be in a separate container should it be with our without water in it? I was leaning towards with water so he could also soak but then it might wash off the vitamin or calcium dust I occasionally spread on the worms. If this happens, is it bad for him to soak a little in water with a tiny bit of vitamin/calcium dust in it?

Does the waterdish have any kind of plant near it? It could be he enjoyed the "protection" of the palm tree and now it seems like an open watersource. My frogs sometimes don't use the waterdish, I drop them in after a feeding once a week, if no poop is found, I give them a bath at the end of the week.
I love your other questions and I'm really curious for the answers aswell.

I agree with Hypnotic; maybe he liked the feeling of security that the palm tree gave him. Without the tree, he feels too exposed to go soak. Try adding a small plastic plant to one edge of the dish, or put the dish under some plants. That may make him feel secure enough to start soaking.

Nightcrawlers often act as stool softeners. That's the only reason I could think of for maybe cutting back on them, but I think quite a lot of people feed them as staples. It's a shame he refuses crickets; try to get him to eat them again, as variety in his diet is a good thing- maybe stop offering nightcrawlers for a bit and give crickets instead. He may get hungry enough just to eat the crickets haha.

I feed all my frogs in a separate container. I don't give them water, because they're not in there for a very long time, but I put very moist paper towelling down on the bottom so they get some moisture.

I don't know whether the nightcrawlers getting covered in Eco-Earth is a problem or not. Supposedly its fairly easy to pass, and with nightcrawlers as a staple it'll be even more so... I guess it just depends how much is getting into him. If its big chunks, or a large amount, that's more likely to be a problem than just a fine dusting on the outside of the worms.

1) The new water dish might be a little intimidating to your frog. Give it a couple of days more and let him adjust to the change of environment. Most people use zoo med/branded water dishes or regular plastic/tapperware containers but make sure they don't overheat or sit under a light because at really high temps the plastic could release chemicals that could be toxic. What you can use depends on your frogs size and tank size.

I prefer zoo med ones since they have all sizes and are safe(material wise). You can flip the old water dish upside down and use it to drop the worms on top of it during feeding times and will help avoid your frog eating unnecessary substrate.

2) Use the 15 minute" all you can eat rule" as a guideline. Your frog WILL stop eating when full. At 2.5" eating 3 med. Night crawlers seems fine to me, but your frog should stop eating worms when full on its own.

3) I think I covered this in #1. But try not to handle your frog and try to feed him within his habitat for comfort. Especially if he hates being handled, because it will create unnecessary stress if handled for no reason. Remember they are mostly "look but don't touch" pets. Use the old water dish tip OR throw the worms in his water bowl to make him want to go in there and eat at the same time.

4) Try to avoid this unless you really have to. If you do it, use treated water up to the frog's chin height. If you are dusting with worms, try to dust in pieces and tong feed because its pointless to dust and feed in the water.

thanks a bunch everyone. I realy like the idea of putting the non-dusted worms in his water dish. I will look into better dishes and make sure he will feel secure in them. I will also try to get him to eat crickets now and then again. I still have like 30 of them gut loading from last week.

1. I use an in the ground water dish. Mojo is too lazy to use it.
2. I say feed him whenever he is hungry. Mojo was eating every night when he was your frogs size.
3. That's why we use ecoearth. They can pass it.
4. Naw I don't use anything, a moist paper towel if anything.

So I decided to change Camo Frog's name. His full name is now, Zuma the Stealth Camo Frog or just Zuma for short. Yes, I got the name from the computer game.

Also, Zuma is eating his crickets again. I was wondering if there is anything wrong with using frozen roaches (thawed of coarse)? I know Zuma will eat inanimate food items so that won't be an issue. The roaches are sold by a a feeder company. I know I wouldn't be able to gut load them but I prefer bringing dead roaches into my house rather than alive ones.

Yeah, and it's a really fitting name! I personally use Nahuatl names, (Aztec). My adult girl is named Akzayakatl. And yes, I realise horned frogs aren't from Mexico, I just love the names and it's not like they care.

1. Like to use the ramp type water bowls made by ZooMed and others.
2. Give a 2.5 in. Pacman all the food it will eat to satiation once daily. When it reaches around 3.5 in. will be eating lots more and you might notice a less enthusiastic feeding response. That's your signal to feed every other day.
3. No, EcoEarth and Plantation Soil should pass through digestive system with no problems. Think a bit of it is even good if feeding night crawlers only as it provides roughage.
4. I don't feed Pacmans' in containers due to handling and stress involved. Imagine over a damp towel is best option if doing so. The supplements that fall of worm into paper towel should be of little to no concern. Again, not an issue if you feed frog in it's enclosure. Good luck !
