If I am correct I think it is nearly impossible to obtain "true" tomato frogs, because they are on the CITES Endangered Species list. So you wouldn't have to worry about being scammed because no one really sells them anyway. True tomato frogs are
Dyscophus antongilii and false tomato frogs are
Dyscophus guineti. Someone correct me if I'm wrong but they are both species of tomato frogs, so the false tomato frog isn't really "false"?
