Usually lights are on 10-10. Usually after 10 the suns down and lights are off and i wait about an hour to an hour and a half
Are your lights set up around the same time as the natural sun up and sun down in your area?
For a while I was feeding at
4 a.m. every morning for my Mojo. Does he burrow under the substrate during the day time?
i would say time to force feed.
I'd hold off with the force feeding, I'd love to hear if the sides are clear first and if the honey bath provided a little boost that might have led to eating tonight. We are reaching a 3 week mark here but I'd ask people like GrifTheGreat and Ilja for advice first, if there is anything else that can be done, I'd try that first.
Agreed, lets see what they say. But never hurts to research it. Little guy is reaching the point of really needing to eat.
The sun sets at around 930 by 10 it's completely dark. The sun rises at around 7. Ill see if he eats tonight if not tomorrow ill start researching on force feeding but I do want to avoid this if I can. I felt his sides and didn't feel any lumps when I put him in to soak today
And yes most of the day he spends covered in the substrate but today when I took him out I looked for poop and mixed up the substrate and also sprayed it down a bit
Have you tried rubbing the frogs mouth with the food? That's the only way my frog will eat without force feeding. Make sure you gently rub the food all around its mouth slowly and gentle. There's a specific spot on mine which seems to make him lunge.
Is it possible he has been impacted somehow? What did the petstore use as a substrate? I would leave him alone for a day or two without trying to feed him, then try putting in a cricket or two as quietly as you can without disturbing the frog. It has worked for me in the past.
The pet store didn't have him in substrate it was just a keeper with a water bowl. I'm gonna try to drop crickets in there tonight. If he doesn't eat any then I guess I'll have to force feed
No substrate?By the way ajpersona123, make sure to feel the frogs right side and check for a lump.
When i felt earlier today when I gave a bath his sides where soft. I pushed gently and ran my finger along to feel anything and didnt.
Well guys if my frog doesnt eat tonight I think Im going to try force feeding him tomorrow. But before I do that Im going to give him another soak and check his sides again. Im hoping he eats tonight because I really dont want to have to force feed him
Best of luck aj, I hope you won't have to forcefeed. I don't think you need to check his sides again or give a bath. I'd leave him, you've given him a bath and felt for blockages, neither helped so I don't think the frog has to go.
Edit: If you are force feeding, please look it up multiple times and do it the correct way, if done wrong, this can be a traumatic experience.
Thanks. Youve been really helpful and I apperciate it. Im really hoping he eats because Im extremely nervous about force feeding. I dont want accidently hurt him. Im gonna have a nice sized nightcrawler ready for him if I have to though. I will update as soon as I can.
I had to forcefeed him this morning but all went a lot better then I thought it would. I was able to feed him two good sized peices of nightcrawler. The first worm was a bit hard to get him to take but once he bit on it he quickly ate it. The second worm I almost got immediatly for him to take. I was even able to take a picture. I do have a couple questions though. Should I forcefeed him for a while? I did try rubbing the worm gently on his mouth both times but he wouldnt bite. Should I try that first?![]()
Don't force feed for a while, check his response first. That nightcrawler might have given him some energy and will back, and he might realise he needs to eat on his own now, but don't wait another 3 weeks.
He seems to have perked up a bit. I can here him hitting the sides of his enclosure. Im hoping he eats because I really dont want to have to keep forcefeeding.
Try feeding him regularly next time, and see if he takes the food on his own. Hopefully he will recognize nightcrawlers as a food source now and eat on his own.
