i had the worm in his ceeper for about an hour and nothing. Saturday will mark the three week period. i understand that him being an amphibian hell survive without food for abit. but it concerns me that he still hasnt eaten because he was eating daily from the shop we got him from
Are you keeping his night time temps up? (sorry if this is a repeated question, but it's very important) Could you post a picture of his new enclosure? Has the frog pooped since you got him? If he hassn't pooped yet, he might be a little constipated from the pinky, in that case, give him a lukewarm bath with water up to his chin maximum, add 3 drops of honey and leave him in for 30 minutes. Afterwards give him another lukewarm bath to rinse him clean, also leave him in there for a while. Also, are you offering the food via tongs or hands or are you just dropping it in? If you are offering by hand or tongs, leave that. And just drop the food in at night and take it out in the morning.
Yeah Ive checked it every night i got to bed and its at 78 and I check it if I wake up through the night just incase. I have a infared I use during the day to raise it to 80. Ill post a picture as soon as I take one. He hasnt pooped but hes been in the same spot for about 4 days now. I didnt want to stress him out by moving him yet. Ill try soaking in the morning just because Im going to try to leave another cricket in his ceeper overnight. Ive been taking the food out when I mist in the morning.
I always drop 3 crickets in for my babies, usually 1-2 get eaten. If he is lazy like my girl and never moves, that one cricket might elude him the entire night, so triple those odds.![]()
Ill try it again tonight but the last time I did that he started chirping because two of the crickets where sitting on his head. I dont think he was being attacked but that didnt seem right to me
Well, try it again, especially since he's in a critter keeper now with all sides blocked off, his stress levels should be majorly reduced. I think it's safe for me to assume your not touching him. Does he have a waterdish and some plants?
Is it possible he has been impacted somehow? What did the petstore use as a substrate? I would leave him alone for a day or two without trying to feed him, then try putting in a cricket or two as quietly as you can without disturbing the frog. It has worked for me in the past.
Well guys if my frog doesnt eat tonight I think Im going to try force feeding him tomorrow. But before I do that Im going to give him another soak and check his sides again. Im hoping he eats tonight because I really dont want to have to force feed him
Best of luck aj, I hope you won't have to forcefeed. I don't think you need to check his sides again or give a bath. I'd leave him, you've given him a bath and felt for blockages, neither helped so I don't think the frog has to go.
Edit: If you are force feeding, please look it up multiple times and do it the correct way, if done wrong, this can be a traumatic experience.
Thanks. Youve been really helpful and I apperciate it. Im really hoping he eats because Im extremely nervous about force feeding. I dont want accidently hurt him. Im gonna have a nice sized nightcrawler ready for him if I have to though. I will update as soon as I can.
I had to forcefeed him this morning but all went a lot better then I thought it would. I was able to feed him two good sized peices of nightcrawler. The first worm was a bit hard to get him to take but once he bit on it he quickly ate it. The second worm I almost got immediatly for him to take. I was even able to take a picture. I do have a couple questions though. Should I forcefeed him for a while? I did try rubbing the worm gently on his mouth both times but he wouldnt bite. Should I try that first?![]()
Don't force feed for a while, check his response first. That nightcrawler might have given him some energy and will back, and he might realise he needs to eat on his own now, but don't wait another 3 weeks.
He seems to have perked up a bit. I can here him hitting the sides of his enclosure. Im hoping he eats because I really dont want to have to keep forcefeeding.
