Default Terrible start to the hobby of dart frog keeping. HELP!

    So, here's my long story...

I have spent about 8 months doing TONS of research on dart frogs, and their enclosures. And, finally, I got a 20g tank setup with the temperature between 72-77 degrees, and humidity at 85-90 degrees. I set it all up with bromiliads, and other tropical plants, and with a nice wood centerpiece. Everything seemed to be going fantastic, and I FINALLY decided to get two PowderBlue Tinctorius sub-adults (said to be at least 1 year old) from lllreptile. I then spent about 3 months saving every penny I could to pay the $200 for the two sub-adults. This morning the frogs arrived, and one was so mutilated, I could hardly tell it was a frog at all (it arrived dead). And the other is TINY (looks like its only a couple months old) and very skinny. I got my money money back for the dead one, but i don't know what to do know. Should I get some knew frogs, should I give up the hobby all together, I don't know, and I don't even know where to start to find a place with frogs I would like, and could take care of.

Anyway, I need all the advice, or help, that I could get.

So sorry to hear about your new frogs. I would not give up on the hobby there are some great breeders out there that you can get some really healthy frogs from. If you have not already checked them out I would highly recommend Joshes Frogs. They have a large selection of frogs and all of the frogs I have purchased from them have been very healthy and arrived in perfect condition. Also Try herpetologic.net i got my first darts from them and I absolutley love them and have never had a problem with them. I would also suggest looking into any reptile shows in your area that way you can go and pick out your frogs and they won't have to go through the stress of shipment. Good luck with your remaining little guy

Yes do not give up yet. It is horrible what happened to one of your first frogs but it will be ok. Order from another location or go to a reptile expo in your area to purchase.

As well as these other options, try and find a local breeder near by.

Sorry for the horrible experience you went through! It's a great hobby. Hang in there!

Thanks for the encouragement! I have gotten the little Powder Blue fattened up, and he's a lot healthier than when I got him!
But the best news is I got a breeding pair of Phyllobates Vittatus with a 20g tank! I'm going to pick them up soone! I'm so exited!!!

    Nathan,
    Congrats your new pair.

Hopefully you can grab another PowderBlue at some point. He looks good.
Good to see him in the water....likely in need of re-hydrating.

    Enjoy

Just found 2 of my frogs dead when I came back from vacation for a week. Very sad. both were not eating for a while though and were getting very skinny. Plenty of food was in the tanks so not sure what problem was. Since then I have been rethinking my tanks.

    good luck with your frogs.
