    Smile Hello Hello!

Hey guys, I'm brand new here and brand new to frogs. But I've always had some form of creepy crawly in a terrarium throughout my life. I've come across a huge american green tree frog in my backyard and Ive had him for about three weeks now. His name is Myfrog. Anyways, I was wondering if there were any tips specific to the breed that I should be aware of? He seems to be thriving under my care but I dont want any nasty suprises!

    Thanks in advance,
    Autumn.

Here's a care sheet for your species of frog, it was taken from http://allaboutfrogs.org.
    American Green Tree Frog

    Hyla cinerea

Description:These beautiful frogs have become a very popular pet species over the recent years.
They are grass-green colored, usually with a creamy colored line running from the jaw along the flanks. (There are sometimes specimens who don't have this green line, but they are a very small proportion) It looks similar to its European cousin Hyla arboria, except that it is slighlty thinner and longer.Habitat:Green tree frogs can be housed in a large, unheated vivarium, out of direct sunlight.
You may also want to get them a flourescent tube for localized heat which apparently they like to hang out on for hours. The temperature should generally be maintained between 20 and 25C (68-77F) during the summer, and a bit cooler in the winter.
This species seems to do really well in captivity provided they didnt get too jolted in shipping. Apparently these guys often arrive in pet stores in such bad shape that even the most tender loving care won't save them. However, if you got one in good shape, they are really pretty hardy creatures.
Read more information on this subject in the Housing Your Pet Frog section.
(see the Frog Doctor for details on illness prevention.)Diet:These guys eat the usual insect diet. Crickets, moths, flies, etc. A vitamin supplement powder should be used at least once a week. (See my page on Dealing with Crickets for more info.)Habits:Males make a really loud noise thats a bit like quacking, which is sometimes known as a "rain call" because they tend to make a lot of noise after warm noises, but which can also be stimulated by external noises.
"Look on the wall behind you. Look at that little girl's face. I know you've seen it. But you know what she's never going to be able to see? She's never going to be able to see the simple wonder of a leaf in her hand. Because there's not going to be any trees. Now you think about that."

    Default Hello Hello!

    Welcome to the forum .

Be sure to use spring water or dechlorinated water only.

You will also need amphibian calcium with vitamin D3 and an amphibian/reptile multivitamin supplement. Lightly dust his food with calcium/vitaD3 every other feeding and lightly dust with the mvi one day a week, not on the same day as the calcium. This is necessary for good health and to prevent MBD. You can use a cup or baggie, put a pinch in and gently shake.

Thanks so much! I was -and still am- really impressed with him. Especially with him being wild caught on my back door! Hey, and you're close to my age, too! I'm 17! Nice to meet you.

Welcome to the forum. My recommendations are recreate her natural habitat as closely as possible, and feed her a varied diet.
