Rule of thumb, males are significantly smaller than females. Also males nave "nuptial pads", but if you REALLY wanna hit it on the target. Pick both up, and gently press down(not hard it has to be like a nudge VERY VERY LIGHTLY remember its a living being), on the top part. Ussually they would do some sort of release call. I used to do these with american toads when I found em. Also you could just hide and make the conditions good enough for mating(raise temps and humidity and put a large dish of water). Wait till nightime, lower the light a big and if they sit there and start to "sing" its a male.
