Hi everyone!
I'm new here!
I have always kept frogs but have recently branched into keeping toads. I recently acquired 2 cane toads and am having trouble figuring out what sex they are. Anyone have any experience with this? Any tips? Would pictures help?
Thanks!
Hi, there and welcome. I know there are a few owners of cane toads on here. How is it they are legal to keep as pets? These are the same toads that rapidly produce and kill tons of mammals right? I would think if they escaped it would be a real disaster. Enlighten me please...
Oh and in the words of Monty Python, "Do you have a flag?"
Thanks for responding! Cane toads are legal to keep as pets in some states. And I have no intentions of letting them out into the wild to totally mess up the ecosystem! What do you mean by a "flag"?
Jenn
The flag thing was a joke b/c it wasnt posted under your name yet when I responded. I wasnt sure if cane toads were legal or not, so that answered my question. You will learn lots of great stuff on here. I like your avatar by the way!
I have had my cane toad for a few years now. In the state of Michigan she is inded legal. She has been one of my favorite pets I have ever had. She actually likes to sit in a small wooden rocking chair and I rock her gently. She will crawl back into her chair if I take her off of it. She is a gentle giant of a toad.![]()
Don't know much about toads to be honest, but I'm sure you could get any questions you have answered on these forums. There's a lot of knowledgeable people.
Males can be heard calling and is the easiest and most reliable way of sexing Cane Toads. They also have darker skin on their throat and nuptial pads appear on the first and second fingers during the breeding season. Females are also much bigger and more of a round shape when adults.
Do you have a picture of your toad in the rocking chair? I would LOVE to see that!

LOVE the video! Thanks for posting it!
Although I do think your toad is very sweet, I was more interested in those gorgeous old books in the background. What are they?
Wow, thats really something. 1789? They all have their own unique qualities about them and I think they are some of the most beautiful things to decorate the house with. And if you can still read them thats great too! Thanks for the pic!
