Hi all,
I just started planting and have been monitoring how everything is doing in my tank and noticed this morning that I have these white hairs growing on my wood. Is this mold and is it okay to have in the tank? I saw some people were saying it is due to ventilation or high humidity. Right now I don't have a fan in there but I am planning on putting one in. I also heard that a good idea would be springtails? Any help is much appreciated.

Hello and welcome to FF! Fungi are a normal habitant of new set-ups and should go away as vivarium matures. What frogs do you plan to keep in vivarium and what are the temperature and humidity levels now? Thank you!
Remember to take care of the enclosure and it will take care of your frog!
Hi thanks for the welcome. I have two whites tree frogs that eagerly waiting for their new home. temperature is around 73, humidity I am not sure. I haven't bought a gauge yet. Going to go buy more supplies tomorrow. Is this something I will need to watch or will it go away with time?
Would not move frogs into a new un-cycled vivarium, specially if plants come from sources that use pesticides or fertilizers. Recommend waiting 30 days after set-up; but if badly needed and plants came from a vivarium store, at least wait 2 weeks. Springtails and other detritus processors like isopods will help balance your little ecosystem. A digital hygrometer/thermometer combo is your best bet and the ExoTerra is very affordable and what I use and recommend.
For White's a day temperature of 85F with around a 10F drop at night will do. Since ventilation is more important than humidity ensure the enclosure is well ventilated and then spray once or twice daily to maintain around 65% humidity. This nice care article will help you get started right: Frog Forum - White's Tree Frog Care - Litoria caerulea .
IRT food, crickets should be same size as distance between frogs eyes. Dust them with CA/D3 2X and vitamins 1X on different days with skip day in between. Although your enclosure looks very nice it appears to have an horizontal arrangement and that is not what White's prefer. They are large frogs as adults and will require a minimum height of 24 in. when fully grown. Good luck!
Remember to take care of the enclosure and it will take care of your frog!
Well I don't plan on putting them in yet, I want to see the plants growing well first. :] Cool I will need to get some soon. Thanks for the recommendation! I will definitely be putting a fan in then. Darn I guess will have to make something different for them in the future. Thank you for help!
Like Carlos said, the fungus is normal in a new set up. Isopods would tear that up more so than spring tails. Expect that fungus to come and go periodically throughout the life of the vivarium.

The mold is something I would watch. Where did you get that wood from anyways? Nice setup btw, looks really cool
