My Pacman frog seems to have a horrible feeding response. I dropped crickets and they have been passing by him for DAYS. Some crickets in there have died for being in there too long. I have successfully tong fed him a few times today using small crickets (so I don't overwhelm him with mediums or larges) using IvoryReptiles feeding 101 and 102 tips. I felt like i was really forceful doing that and I don't want a tong feeding only Pacman Frog. Is there a way I can buff up his feeding response?
How big is your pacman SVL(snout to vent length)? Maybe the small crickets are just too small and he does not want to go through the hassle of catching such a small prey. For crickets/roaches you have to feed something around the size of the distance between the frogs eyes. In my oppinion, crickets are a pain to feed and gutload. You are way better off with night crawlers or roaches and feed the occasional treats.
Well this was his first time tong feeding, so I would not get nightcrawlers till then. But now that (s)he does tong feed I will be nightcrawlers mostly. I usually use medium crickets but petsmart only has small and large. She at about 10 small ones withing 10 minutes by tong. Now I will mainly feed her/him nightcrawlers with crickets time to time so they have variety.
My Trevor only gets 3-4 nightcrawlers per week, and she's doing great. They're great for impaction issues, and very nutritious. Don't even have to worry about gut-loading.
My new routine for feeding Jamie (name for both genders) is to buy 5 crickets every time I buy more nightcawlers. Usually the person getting crickets miscounts. I just did this today and i got 9 crickets for the price of 5. This way, I can give Jamie variety. Now I will feed for 10 minutes with 2 days in between until Jamie gets a better feeding response. When it is better, I will feed every other day.
So what I will be doing to fix his/her feeding response, is add ore time between feedings. Is this the correct way to do this? I really hate having to rub the worm on his/her lip to get her to feed. I feel like too much will stress her out if she is not already. I want to be able to put the tongs in front of her, and have her lunge at it or open her mouth for me to put it in.
Mojo will not eat a night crawler if it has been cut. He likes them big and juicy. And he has started to not want crickets, I think because the biggest crickets are still too small for him.
i will wait one more day to feed him. Maybe that will help.
