Hi Elizabeth! Was born in P.R. and raised in Caparra Heights near Puerto Nuevo. They were very common in the small mount (formerly a U.S. military facility) behind the Borinquen Towers (talking about the 1960's). Could find P.R. Boas (Epicrates inornatus) in there too. We called them iguanas and the males where pretty large and had a lovely bluish color . When I went to college in Mayaguez, captured an introduced Green Iguana baby and kept it as a pet for a while.

Aww that's too bad. I keep my tanks high up so my dogs can't get to them. Just make sure they don't get to the cane toad tank or else it will be the dogs who are in danger. R.I.P. Ameiva.
