I have been feeding my African Albino Clawed Frog 3 times a day for the last year and a half. Is this wrong? He seems to be happy and healthy.
Depends on how much you feed. I only feed my frogs every other day or even less frequently, they're all rather plump. Meals consist of one large nightcrawler or however many reptomin sticks they can eat in about 10 minutes, these guys don't need a LOT of food but they act like they do. :P
He has never had anything except pellets. I give him 1 3x a day. He is NOT plump, can I feed him more? I am going to the store tomorrow and would love to plump him up with something new if it's safe! Recommendations? Thanks ;-)
Depends on the age/size of the frog. If he gets a single pellet 3x a day he may be underfed. I would feed him as much as he can eat in 15 minutes once a day if a juvenile and every other day if he's an adult.
You can mix it in with nightcrawlers (chopped if he's small) as well, they really love worms.
Oh no, I definately don't want to under feed him! He is pretty big, just not plump. I jumped up and fed him another pellet as soon as I read message, lol.
What about Frozen Krill, Shrimp and Blood worms? I think he is about 8 years old and would love him to live the longest happiest life I can give him!
If your frog is 8 years old and appears healthy and has a good appetite I would say keep on trucking.
All the things you mentioned are perfectly fine occasional treats. As you know, these frogs aren't picky!
Ok, I am going to get him some new treats tomorrow and give him to him 1x a week to start. I have recently lost my dog and cat so I am pretty focused on spoiling Kermmie.
Thank you for answering all my questions, if you don't mind I have a couple more?
How is there eyesight? Seems like sometimes he can't find his food right away?
How do I get his picture put on my profile?
No worries if you don't want to keep answering, I will understand, thanks. ;-)
Their eyesight is poor and they mostly find food by a sense of smell, vibrations received by their lateral line (like fish), and their sensitive fingers.
To change your picture: go to "Settings" on top right; then on the left as part of the "Settings" box you will select "Edit Avatar." From there you have two options to get photo from web (like Photobucket) or to upload from PC. I used the first option and worked fine. Good luck!
Remember to take care of the enclosure and it will take care of your frog!
Thank you sooo much for all your help, much appreciated!!!![]()
