If you have a nice aquarium shop that sells frozen food could get some frozen infusoria or cyclops used to start baby bettas. From there they could take gut loaded brine shrimp and daphnia. Water changes first few weeks have to be small because changing water chemistry will kill them. When raising Bettas (in a half full ten gallon) I used an airline to carefully get the dirt from the bottom after week two a cup daily and slowly dripped aged dechlorinated water back in (airline tubing with valve).
