Just offered their first meal. Their feeding response is impressive. I dropped one cricket in to see if there was any interest and within seconds 3 were tugging on it fighting over it. They are taking down crickets of equal size to themselves. Their venom is pretty impressive as well, almost instant kill. And these guys sting the hell outta their prey where my heterometrus tend to just chow down while the prey is still alive and only sting the really feisty adult male dubias, and even after a sting die pretty slowly

Lost 2 of them to cannibalism, so they are now separated into deli cups to grow out and will be reintroduced as adults. One of them just molted up to 5i a day or 2 ago the rest are at 4i but look to be premolt. These guys are growing at super speed compared to my heterometrus sp. I can't wait untill they mature and I can start producing some babies =)

Agreed 100% I've been growing quite interested in Hot inverts, i don't know if I would own a scolopendra sp. anytime soon, they are beautiful creatures but the lack of knowledge and documentation on their venoms along with their lighting speed and spastic movements make them something I am content with just observing through pics and videos. At least for now

I also have a huge respect for OW T's as well, I don't see myself getting any poecilotheria sp. anytime soon but they are stunning creatures.

I've been looking at LP's lately, grow quite large and slings are cheap.

Next month at Cornell they have an event called insectapalooza that I'm pretty excited for, think I might pick up my first sling or two then, maybe another scorp, well see

There's is some risk with keeping these. This species is the most venomous native to the US. I wouldn't necessarily recommend these as a first scorp. They are extremely docile but pack a punch. Scorpions can adjust how much venom is released with each sting so effect will vary. A "dry" sting will only result in short lived sharp localized pain. Then depending on dosage it can be as severe as minor effects on the heart and lungs, wide spread pain lasting 24-48+ hours in some reports. They are not known to cause death in healthy adults, unless an allergic reaction occurs, then things get tricky if you arnt near a hospital.

So yes there is some risk with keeping these. But with knowing that risk and practicing caution they make really interesting additions to a collection.

I would recommend checking out emperor scorpions for a first scorpion. Most are docile and have very mild venom.

All are now 5i. Lost 2 along the way to cannibalism, the one pictured is the culprit. So they are all currently housed separately untill maturity when there's no more risk of further cannibalism

I respect and love all animals, but there's something about scorpions... they just give me the heebie-jeebies! Well done on being brave enough to keep them, I'd be legging it out of the house if I found one...

If dragons were real I'd totally be in on that...

One of the females molted up to 7i last weekend. Other female is looking fat and premolt. And the 2 males look like they've probably got another meal or two to go.
