    Default Live moss help.

    Hi all,
I’m still slowly slowly building up a nice big viv for my amazon milk frogs to move into.
I want to cover most of the ground in plants and moss. They currently have the ‘zoomed frog moss’ in their tanks, it comes dry and revives itself when wet.
I want live moss in this new tank so it takes over a bit so I’d quite like a few different mosses for interest and greens!
Can you suggest mosses to use that take well and look good?

I also bought some brown dried sphagnum moss in a compressed bale and rehydrated that, do you think that will grow or is it truly dead and gone?

And finally, ebay sells a few mosses (such as sphagnum moss) ‘freshly picked’ or mosses that have been ‘harvested’ are these safe to use with the froggers or is there too much risk with introducing stuff?

The frogs still wont be in there for a while but i want to get it growing!
    Thanks!

    Hello,

Moss is very exciting to grow. There is so much to learn about it. I love the 'greens" too !

2 excellent tropical sources: ( good places for you to start )

    Live Tropical Moss

Moss Mix | Folius Enterprises LLC

These are US businesses. I believe Folius will ship to you? I'm not sure about "live" deliveries from BJs?

below is an album with some moss photos
    http://www.frogforum.net/members/fly...bums-moss.html

(most of which are photos of moss from black jungle ) One delivery goes a long way!
The very 1st photo here is sphagnum moss ( resurrected) it is very close to the light and auto misted ( in a PDF enclosure)

We need to be careful with the re-hydrated types. When loose like that, a tree frog can accidentally ingest a hunk ( when feeding) of which can cause an intestinal blockage.

Here are 3 photos I just snapped of "moss from the backyard". This is growing in a 2 gallon , loosely covered, glass canister on my kitchen table, in a very well lit room with lots of windows. I have never watered it. Any "living organisms " hitched a ride in.

Personally , I would NEVER put anything from "the yard" into a frog inhabited enclosure. In the photos, the butterfly is jewelry and the frogs are fake. The moss, however, ( ? species). This moss indigenous to Long Island , NY ; it comes and goes. It will go dormant and disappear completely.

Do you mean on ebay? '"dartfrog vivarium's"? I was watching an item then missed my chance as it sold out! Otherwise could you point me in the direction of a website? I don't think getting live plants fro the US would be easy.. or cheap!

No if you put dartfrog into your search engine it should find him but he is Dartfrog - Everything for the Amphibian Keeper (dartfrog.co uk) and sells just about everything anyone with frogs could want, postage can be a bit expensive but I find everything else to be reasonable certainly worth a look I get most of my plants from him as he has small ones which can be difficult to get from elsewhere. With regard getting plants from abroad I did find a german site had some fantastic plants including moss but the transport costs are really high if you wanted I may be able to find the web site for them as well if that would help?
