Just think about all the different dog breeds out there. It all from inbreeding.
okay ok r u saying pacman frogs are inbeed.is my albino inbreed
I don't doubt that some pacman frogs are in certain blood lines.
y does this happen.would u do it?and im a lil sad that my precious frogs could b inbreed.
Poison is correct. Maverick you have a lot to learn. Inbreeding animals is not morally wrong like with people. It is a natural occurence even in the wild.
Plus places like Brazil where many of the Horned Frog species ranges cross into have an embargo in place outlawing any of their natibve species to be harvested for any means and the rest have limited availability. Breeders do aquire WC specimens every so often to add new blood into their breeding lines and strengthening the bloodline. This is not something to freak out about. This is part of the process that gives you these wonderful animals.
But thats nasty and i want a pure blood line of frogs.
To elaborate on Grif's post, line breeding is no where near homosapien breeding. I've bred many vertebrates, Quail are my largest example of "line bred" species. They have lived long and great lives, with no genetic deformities. I've experienced polymorphism, but with temperatures correct, and humidity correct, i've hatched flawless chicks. A 98% percent success rate to be exact. With no deformities or un-healthy hatchlings.
You're over exaggerating (no offence). Frogs don't have emotions and religions (at least it has not been proven) like we do. They don't care about inbreeding. It can take several generations till inbreeding can cause harm to them but with humans all it takes is one.
Do frogs have a limbic system?
Trust what everyone is saying. You have nothing to worry about in inbreeding and frogs/food.
okay guys but all im saying is its sick and i want a normal frog from diff familys.but life sucks so i guess we cant get what we all want
Maverick there is nothing wrong with a line bred frog. Like I said siblings and parents breed with each other in the wild too. This is natural and the frogs themselves will do it to further the species. It isn't "Sick" its life. You are looking at it in the perspective like human incest which is not the same. Animals don't see this as morally wrong or disgusting. They see it as a survival tactic.
You are taking a small subject and blowing it out of proportion. You need to find some more material on frog breeding and keeping. Read as much as you can because obviously what we are telling you isn't enough.
Ok grif
(as a person just reading this thread..not to contribute any support or debate on the subject. this thread made my morning!) lol
A great example of 'inbreeding' not causing the same problems with reptiles as it does with mammals is the Sirtalis tetraenia population in Europe. It's a garter snake species native to a very small area around San Fransisco. Illegal to catch own or sell in the US now (I know a guy who got in mild trouble for getting too close to take a picture of one). About a hundred years ago, a population of 12 individuals was shipped to Europe, and it's a very popular species. Now, almost a hundred years later, the majority of those snakes are still healthy and look good. Odd traits are a bit more common (I've seen several 2-headed babies...) but overall the population is doing well.
In other words, after 100 generations of sibling or parent/offspring inbreeding, you still get healthy pretty reptiles.
Edit:
Some reptiles like the Brahminy blind snake are actually all genetically identical. There are no males, and the females self-fertilize, or mate with themselves. That species has been around for a very long time. lol, self-cest is even more inbred than incest.
I would love to have a two headed anything! Well maybe not a two headed girlfriend, but a two-headed pet anything would be awesome!
