Default Alternatives to covering Great Stuff?

So I'm not a big fan of covering great stuff with coconut fiber or moss and was thinking of making it look like stone after it sets and I carve out the shapes. What can I use to cover it? Grout, Quikrete? Any Ideas other then clay?

Im not a fan of Cocci Fiber either, i used grout and it came out great. Let it sit over night tho, mine contracted and the grout chipped off so i had to redo it.

What kind of grout did you use? Anything I need to watch out for? I'm guessing anything that's anti fungal. Got any pictures? how many coats did you use? Sorry for all the questions, this is my third viv and trying some different techniques this time around. Thanks Gary!

Use non sanded grout. Best to go with multiple thin coats. I normally give each coat 72 hours to dry to avoid cracking. You can also use quikrete, but it is recommended to allow concrete to cure for about a month before using the Viv. You could also cover it with drylok paint to give a rocklike appearance

I agree with Deranged, go with sand less and do thin coats, they seem to work best, i usually do 4 thin coats. Keep in mind it dries a lot lighter that when you first apply it.

very cool. with the detail you have put in, i would use drylok tinted with acrylic craft paint. any type of mortar covering would take the detail away.

Awesome pics, here is another cool stuff to coat things in for future reference. Rustolium deck repair. I'm going to use the stuff your using in the tank for making ramps to the water feature, looks awesome what you did!Name: image.jpg
