Got a new tank for my bullfrog but with a 40 watt bulb the warm side is at 35 degrees and the cool side is 31. What is the maximum temp that's ok for them? I know this is too hot and I'm struggling to find a heat bulb lower than 40 watts.
Do not exceed 37c. In fact i think that 35 may be a little to hot. I actually lost a frog when i left town for a few days we had a power glich so my timer didnt shut of when it should have the temp of the tank was around 40c when i came home my frog died 45 minutes later. My bulb was a 150w. that only stayed on for 4 hours then was off for 4 hours. i had that at a continuous cycle. there are care sheets on this site that will give you exact temps. I am just surprised that a 40 watt bulb is producing that much heat. Is your tank ventalated?
Have you tried a small heat pad on the side?

It's wood so the heat doesn't get through we'll. have you heard of vivexotic vivariums? Here is one
Flukers makes a clamp lamp that has a built in dimmer. Or you can look around the lighting section of a hardware store for a lamp dimmer and plug it in to your existing fixture, than you can adjust the amount of heat it puts out
