Hey! We caught some tadpoles out of my parents pool here in alabama, there were a couple of different kinds. There are two tree frogs, but we are not sure what kind they are. They have only been transformed for about a month. The squirrel tree frog looks the closest, but i have no idea. When they first changed they were a light brown, but they change to almost an iridescent white color on the bottom and a bright or light green on the top. Thanks for your help!![]()
Welcome to the Frog Forum!
I believe, after doing a bit of research, they are one of the following:
Squirrel Treefrog (Hyla Squirrella):
Squirrel Treefrog in Alabama
Ornate Chorus frog (Pseudacris Ornata):
Ornate Chorus Frog in Alabama
Pine Barrens Treefrog (Hyla Andersonii):
Pine Barrens Treefrog in Alabama
Green Treefrog (Hyla Cinerea):
Green Treefrog in Alabama
However, only when they become juveniles or adults will we really be able to identify them.
I like the look of your setup. By the way, what are you feeding the frogs? If you've not done so already, I strongly suggest picking up some Reptile Multi-Vitamin Dusting powder and Reptile Calcium + Vitamin D3 powder. Lightly dust the crickets/wingless fruitflies once every week for the Multi-Vitamin Dusting and every other feeding for the Calcium + Vitamin D3 Dusting. To dust, simple place the crickets in a plastic bag, add a pinch or so of the dusting, seal the bag, shake it around a bit, and then serve the dusted crickets/wingless fruitflies to the frogs!
Also, make sure all water you use is either Reverse Osmosis or Conditioned by a product such as Aquatize Water Conditioner. The Chlorine or Chloramine in tap water is toxic to frogs and Distilled water lacks the minerals frogs require.
Good work so far!

Well thank you! My boyfriend created the tank they seem to like it so far. We have just been giving them small ants, they are just too tiny for any live feeders our pet store offers. I've been looking online to order pinhead crickets and wingless fruit flies for them. I appreciate your reply, it is very helpful as we don't know too much about these little guys.
I would definitely switch over to pinhead crickets as soon as possible, I feed my small Pacific Chorus frogs them and they're both very healthy, happy frogs. Also, if the ants are wild-caught they may be harboring pesticides, viruses, or parasites that could harm your frogs.
Also, what substrate are you using? I personally recommend Coconut Fiber for Tree frogs. It's sold in bricks sometimes under the name of plantation soil, and it's safe, natural, and can be digested with little to no risk of impaction.
I would provide lots of plant cover if you haven't already, and make sure that at least 2/3 of the tank is land, not water. I use a medium-sized ornate clay bowl for a water bowl in my Chorus frogs tank, it goes very well with the coconut fiber.
Also, if you're fine with it, could I see a photo of your setup?
