Farmers market surprise !

I go to the farmers market every Sunday morning.
Today there was a nice surprise.........a vendor selling beautiful carnivorous plants.
They are all grown , "from seed" , over-wintered outside, here on LI.

I got these 2:

Wow they are gorgeous, great find. I sometimes have issues find great plants where I live, most times I need to travel to find them.

They can stay out ( if I recall ) +12F.
They need the dormancy.

I'll give it a try.
I have an unheated sun room that could be a good spot for a few months

You can place them in a Ziploc bag and place them in the fridge to winter over. Thats what I do.

Very nice! I just traded for a bunch of Sarracenias this week for some bog gardens my daughter and I are putting in. Those Venus fly traps he sells are HUGE!!!

Fridge temp needs to be 35° to 40° and keep the soil of the plant moist. If it dries the plant will die, but sealing them in a Ziploc bag produces condensation and this will help keep things damp while they slumber. If you see any mold start on the plants remove the infected area or leaf so that it doesn't spread.

Be sure to open the bags once or twice a week for a couple minutes to allow stale air to be replaced with new.
