Venus fly trap seems small this year.

Don't know if anyone here knows anything about these but mine just came out of dormancy a little over a month ago and it's seems small. It's healthy but the traps are smaller than in previous years. I did allow it to stay dormant for over the maximum recommended 5 months this year though, could that have something to do with its traps being so small? Or will they grow bigger over the year?

Edit: I think I figured it out. I let it grow flowers this year and that takes up a lot of energy.

They should get larger, but they are most likely small due to just being out of dormancy. Grif and myself both keep carnivorous plants. We have a couple threads going here.

I think it's because I let that one flower. It uses a lot of energy. My other six that I didn't allow to flower are doing fine so it must be that.

Carnivorous plants are really cool arnt they. I have a few fly traps, pitchers, sundews and had a butterwort which I found at the beach but died for some reason.

Yeah if your Flytrap was not a fully mature plant and you let it flower then that is exactly why it has grown slowly. It still may produce larger leaves later on in the summer, but not quite as large as before.

Another scenario is that the mature plant's Rhizome split and the mature plant died leaving the younger less mature Rhizome growing. That plant would produce less impressive sized traps.

This one was fully mature but the curious thing is that its only one of them which has these smaller traps. I allowed some other plants to flower as well and their lamina are fine. There must just be some other factor which I haven't noticed which is causing this ones traps to shrink. Thanks for the help.

P.S. I usually split/divide the Rhizome(there's an e on the end) if a smaller plant starts to develop. Do you think that could be a cause? I shouldn't think it is though because it says to separate smaller plants into their own pots in all the care sheets.
