Default Heating a whites tree frog.

Thinking of getting a whites tree frog. How am I supposed to heat its cage. Im worried that it will climb up to the heat bulb and burn it self. Should i use a mat?

I use a 60watt house bulb to keep the ambient temps up in the cage. A heat pad will only heat up the surface not the air if your cage is not sealed.

As for the frog climbing to the bulb, I hope you don't put the lamp inside the enclosure. My frogs have never tried to get to the bulb.

Yeah thats what I was thinking about the heat mat and no I wasn't going to put it inside the enclosure. You see its an Exo Terra and it has mesh on the top. The heat bulb on the outside of the terrarium might heat up the mesh and burn him/her. BTW I don't have the frog yet. I only considered getting one five minutes ago and am still researching them.

So a heat lamp and a regular 60w house bulb is enough to add some extra heat?

I use the heating bulbs that you can buy for the exo terra tank. I have never had problems with the frog burning itself..

on a 33 gal exo terra and 73 degree room. i use a heat mat set on 80 degrees. the 26 watt 2 uvb bulbs that fit in the exo hood and a 25 or 40 watt reg light bulb set on the screen top in a clamp lamp fixture, depending on the season ,winter or summer. also at night a 25 or 40 watt red bulb in a clamp lamp . the cage is planted and cocoa fiber substrate. its about 85 to 90 degrees at the very top and air temp 70 to 75 at bottom.

I use a heat lamp that is attached to a hygrotherm this way it turns off automatically throughout the day when the temperature reaches my desired setting. The lamp sits on the mesh of the the Exo-Terra vivarium and as long as it doesn't touch the plastic it's fine. I also have it set in an area where there is nothing for the frogs to "bask" on right underneath it so they don't get too hot.
