I apologise if this is the wrong place to post, but I was just curious whether or not there is a 'frog adoption' scheme set up for where people can put their pets up for adoption if they find they can no longer cope with them for whatever reason??
The NEHS has an adoption program, as I imagine most other herpetological societies do as well. I don't know about the others, but our (NEHS) adoption program is filled with red-eared sliders, green iguanas, and not much more of anything else. When something else, like a frog, comes into the program, it usually is snatched up pretty quickly. Of course when a frog shows up it is usually a Cuban treefrog or a marine toad. I always get the call asking me if I want it. I don't.
At the NEHS, we are over run with RES and iguanas, because pet stores (especially the big national chains) sell them very cheaply and provide little, to no, information on what to expect as the animal grows. The majority of these creatures are purchased on impulse. So, soon this cute-little, green critter is now a monster that has over grown its enclosure or has become violent and unfriendly. We are inundated with them because who wants them then? Only the truly dedicated, and they are few and far between.
