is foil or glad press and seal ok to use over the screen cover to hold humidity in?
or should i return the dome lamp for something else to something that can hold a 100 watt?
the uth heater should be placed on the side right?
First of all read the care sheet by clicking Here.
You are off to a great start by doing your research and setting the new home.
What size is the frog you are getting , because if it is a really small baby you will need to do some things different.
you need to know this first. if it is a really small baby then a 10g is too big at the moment.
if fed well it will grow quickly.
not a a small baby but a decent size , petsmart frog (green color).
what do you think about my other question s any input would be great.
my room stays cool cieling fan and a lasko rotating stand fan.
just want to be sure on heating and the bulbs ect.
Chubbs is waiting on me to pick her up.
Pending on his size a 10 gallon might be a little too big. Also you will need a weaker bulb for day. Make sure it is not a uvb buld. And you will also need something for night time heat. I use a red incandesent bulb. Yes uth should be on the side. Only cover about 3/4 of the top. I use plexiglass that I have cut. Plexi glass does warp a good bit. Make sure you get a a digital thermometer/humidity reader with a probe. They are very important to have the proper environment for your frog. The analog readers are all junk. Be careful about pet shop frogs. I would order one from a reputable breeder instead.
Hi Doorflop, welcome to the forum! Thank you for doing your research before getting your pet!
You should not need to above 50W on the lights. I highly recommend using a Flukers 5.5 inch light with a dimmer switch. That way you can tweek the temps to get them just right. I never need to turn the lights up full blast. You can cover about 3/4 of the lid with plastic wrap, leaving a space for the light and poke some holes for ventilation. That will greatly help with the humidity. Yes, the UTH goes on the side. Ideally on the side opposite the water dish so that you have a temperature gradient (warmer side and cooler side).
Do you have a water de-chlorinator? Vitamins and calcium with D3?
Let us know if you have any questions. Feel free to post pics of your setup and of the frog when you get it!
Agin your on the right path but you have to do things in the correct order.
So about 1.5 inches snout to vent or STV or SVL.
I would keep your baby in a small plastic critter keeper and cover the sides with construction paper. (on the out side)
a 1.5 inch or so of moist not wet coco fiber (eco earth) wetted with treated or bottled spring water. ( I would trust treated tap water more you know where it came from.)
The eco earth needs to be wet enough that when you put some in your hand it will clump and when you squeeze it no water drips out.
If the UTH mat is the smallest size from zoomed then it can be used on the plastic critter keeper.
Placed on one of th sides. ( packies burrow to feel safe , get cool and moist.)
You will need a way to keep an eye on the temps and humidity.
I recommend getting digital types. and place the sensor near the bottom but not in the substrate or near the water bowl.
or on top of the heat mat.
Ambient light is fine for these guys. they don't need UV light.
To control the heater I would use a Zoomed rheostat
Feeding I would start out with a staple of medium crickets dusted with calcium w/D3 two days out of the week and multi vitamin once a week do not combine both in one day. And canadian night crawler pieces no longer than 1/2 in to start. Do not dust the worms. trust me it won't be good.
Feed the worms via tongs.
Cut the worm from the anus side and it will heal and not die.
Hello and welcome to FF! You got lots of advice, one thing you have not mentioned is if Pacman will be an "albino." If so, their eyes and skin are sensitive to daylight and will need a red, black (moonlight with faint purple light, or a heat emitter). Good luck !
Remember to take care of the enclosure and it will take care of your frog !
thanks for the friendly advice guys ,
waiting on on my 5.5's to get here and misting is ok like twice a day for a pacman?
