They almost have paid themselves off lol, I paid $10 for the original roaches and sold some babies off for 5 the other day.

Yeah counting them out took a very very long time but I was so excited u didn't care. I only took out enough males to make it a 3:1 ratio.

    Congrats Matthew!

I was planning to start my colony this week but found out B.Dubias are illegal in FL . I'm trying to find for an alternative roach specie that resembles Dubias in nutritional value as well as breeding efficiency...any thoughts?

The following species are legal in Florida:
    Blaberus discoidalis
    Blaberus craniifer
    Eurycotis floridana
    Panchlora nivea
    MALE Gromphadorhina portentosa
    Pynoscelus surinamensis

Roaches tend to have roughly the same nutritional value across the board; though the actual meat:shell ratio and composition of micronutrients will vary. All of these make for possible staple feeders.

I would recommend Blaberus discoidalis (discoid roaches, false death heads) for Blaptica dubia replacement. Similar size, similar reproductive rate, and do not fly or climb. The only major difference is they are not sexually dimorphic like B. dubia.

Heck if you live in Florida you might be able to go out and catch some discoids, or P. nivea. I'd recommend both for feeders. Discoids will be easier of course, but Banana roaches have their uses.

Unfortunately Nivea fly though, which could be a deterrent to some keepers (even though they look cool.) I would personally get discoids.

Yeah I guess Panchlora nivea isn't quite the beginners roach.

Still if you can find them wild, and aren't concerned about the flying, why not try them?
