Thread: Day time cranwelli feeding.

  1. #1

    Default Day time cranwelli feeding.

Don't know if somethings off, but Mojo just ate some crickets mid day. He will usually just eat at night time, and I thought this was the norm for cranwellis. Any thoughts?

I'm not sure about eating during the day, but I assume if he was hungry and food walked by he'd eat it.
Are you leaving the crickets in the enclosure all the time? I don't have much frog experience but I know crickets bite, so leaving them in the enclosure during the day (sleeping time) might not be a good idea.

Since these guys bury them selves up to their eyeballs there is not much for the cricket to get to other than the business end of a frog then the end.

    Edit:
    At lease mine does.

Oh, ok. I'd still be nervous to leave them in. My frog doesn't bury himself all the way, he only makes a small crevice to sit in, so he could definitely get bit.
I like to be a little over protective. lol

I got a new piece of frog furniture today and had to move Mojo over to put it in. Which makes it even more wierd. I noticed he didn't cover himself agian so I thought I would give him a couple crickets. Sure enough he scooped them right up. Now Mojo has ate just about every night since I got him. Except last night. He might just be hungry. Just when you think you are getting to know your frog, they throw you all off.

Maybe you are not feeding him enough.

Now the problem with giving him crickets during the day is that now he will get up at this time and expect you to feed him. They are nocturnal and do sometimes become active during the day to shed or bathe, but it does sound like his feeding schedule is now messed up.

Do pacs close their eyes when they sleep? If not then my frog is awake 24/7.

Really? They don't close them at all to sleep? I just wanted to know this for sure so I can tell. I always see mine with his eyes open and he barely burrows.

If you look closely you'll be able to tell the difference between awake and asleep. The pupils are much larger when awake and alert

When Pacman Frogs sleep they will almost always leave the eyes open and contract the iris closing the pupil so little to no light is visible, but they do sometimes close their eyes completely when sleeping.

Thanks guys, I did notice the pupil smaller at times, especially during the day but did not know that was actually "sleeping". Great insight!

I fed Mojo agian tonight at his normal time. I will feed him agian at the same time tomorrow night. He had 17 full grown gut loaded crickets from tongs. He refused the rest of the crickets so I gave them to our outside pet toad.

Nightcrawlers are on the menu tomorrow (i feed him till he headbutts food away) . No dust though. I try and feed Mojo every time he pokes his head out from his burrow. Is this good or should I do the every other day thing?

Just for age sake... Mojo has just grown his nuptial pads about a weekish ago. About a week an a half ago he didn't have them, but last soak they were there.
