Well when I was seeing off my wife to work this morning.
I found this little toad hopping around my feet.
Thankfully I didn't step on the little one.
This is the first toad I have seen in years at my home.
Thankfully I couldn't resist picking it up and taking a look at it.
To my horror I found that it is missing its right foot. And the wound is pretty fresh.
I looked around to see if it was close to the area where I caught it but all I saw was my neighbors cat
licking its lips and none to happy.
I took the little one inside and got my magnifying glasses and checked the little one for puncture wounds.
Thankfully I found none.
I am contacting my vet for instructions.
but it is hopping around the little hospital bin like nothing is wrong.
what a tough little baby.
I am going to get some pin head crickets and see if it will eat.
Now I have it in a 9X6X4 plastic bin with a towel over it to keep it dark.
to hopefully keep the little one calm as much as possible.
What a tiny one. Hope it gets better for you. Good for you, helping it out
Cute little toad!!!!!
He will eat flightless fruit flies also. Keep him in his hospital tank with paper towels, changes daily. Get him a smooth, shallow water dish and be sure to change the water daily also. Even a critter keeper with the sides covered will work nicely since he is so small. If you use fruit flies, you can use a nylon to cover the lid.
Any word from your vet?

Picked up a 2 day old culture today for 6 bucks and the vet said to treat with
triple antibiotic cream. w/o pain
I have already put in some FFlies and it has snapped up almost all of them.
and left a little present for me.
I plan on keeping for a week or so until the wound heals then release.
That's so sweet of you to do!I hope he does well!

it is eating at least 100 FF a day! and its belly is getting full.
Thankfully it is still having good BM's so no worries there.
It's going to have some good fat stores when it is released.
I wish I could keep it but it was born wild and deserves to be free.
if it was having problems getting around and hunting food I would keep it.
But it is doing great!
I am naming it Stumpy.
Update on stumpy's progress.
Stumpys wound is almost completely healed.
I wish I could keep this little one but it wouldn't be fair to it.
But what I will do is release it at falls lake or some less populated areas.
safe from lawn mowers , cars ect ect.
I will be releasing it this weekend with a full belly of FFlies and multivitamin dusted pinhead crickets.
I will be happy for the little one but sad to see it go.
You've done a great job! He's growing so quickly and looks wonderful
.

I am going to release Stubbs today.
Here are a few pictures.
In the time Stubbs has spent with me, Stubbs has consumed countless Fruit flies and 20 pinhead crickets.
With only one treatment of triple antibiotic cream and once the wound healed a pediolyte soak.
has done exceptionally well and doesn't want to be in the hospital bin anymore.
I am taking Stubbs out to a local lake that should be a good place for it to live out it's life.
I would love to keep the little one but that wouldn't be fair. It was born wild and is totally rehabilitated.
I wish it well and will miss seeing it's little face when I wake up at home.
Good luck Stubbs!!!!
Good luck Stubbs,he will be very happy in there!!!!!
Stubbs finding its new home.
it didn't want to leave my hand.
And it sat there for a few minutes looking up at me
then hopped into the bushes.
I just hope this fall it can burrow well enough to survive the winter.

This is wonderful and so kind of you.
Now you are one of us...the healers, the rescuers.
Congrats! He looks great and should be happy with his own kind. A happy story for Stubbs.
Great big smile!!!!
