    Default New Pacman Owner

I just have a few questions about my new frog I got. I can tell he is an ornate pacman because of his "horns" and reddish spots.
I have watched many Youtube videos about how to care for these things, but they keep telling the opposites of each other. For example,
some videos would say, "Use moss!" and others would say, "Don't use moss!". If some one can just put a list of things or requirements below that would be nice.
I would need to know information like:
    • Temperature
    • Diet
    • Substrate
    • Setup

    Water Quality
If anyone can help that would be nice.
Also my pacman frog did not even attempt to eat any of the crickets in the tank he has. he has a 5 gallon tank and he is probably 2-2.5 inches long
from head to butt. I did see him molting soon after i got him. Does that have anything to do with him eating? If i can get a nice detailed respnse that would be
    awesome.

    Bye.

    Welcome fellow frogger!!

When you first acquire a new baby, it's normal for them not to eat asap. Let him get comfy with his new environment and he should be eating soon. Now, you must meet certain criteria in order to create a good enclosure.

    • Temperature- Daytime: 80-82 F; Nighttime: 78F. Humidity must always remain between the 70-80% range. These two factors are crucial in the feeding habits of your frog, wrong temps and humidity will throw off a good appetite.
    • Diet- I mainly feed crickets and started feeding night crawlers now.( Because they are easier to feed, no need to gutload, easier to keep, don't chirp and don't escape; and last but not least, they are a lot more nutritious than crickets.) You should dust with Calcium+D3 3x per week, and a multivitamin supplement once per week.
    • Substrate- Eco Earth-ENOUGH SAID. It's a coco fiber that's good for burrowing, thermo-regulation and it's not harmful if accidentally ingested while feeding. STAY AWAY FROM MOSS, because it will cause impaction if swallowed and a bad impaction could lead to death. People that use moss MUST and SHOULD feed outside the tank to prevent moss intake. That is a different topic and preference, but play it safe and stay moss free in my opinion.
    • Setup- Water bowl, eco earth substrate, thermometer and hygrometer(Digital ones are more accurate), a plastic plant for shade, an under-tank heat pad( That should be placed on the SIDE of the tank and not the bottom) and a hiding place would be fine and more than enough. The 5 gallon tank is perfect for him since he is a baby; yet you should cover each side of the tank with one of those laminated films so your frog can feel secure and like a boss inside and you officially have a mini jungle inside your room. A frog must feel safe and secure in order to eat. Also, of you have trouble keeping temperatures and humidity within those ranges, you can over around 1/2-3/4 of the top of your tank with plastic wrap. Are you using a screened lid?
    • Water - I use tap water treated with reptisafe. You must treat your water and should not use regular tap water unless you treat it. I use treated water for everything, from cleaning to misting.

So this is a basic heads up. More knowledgeable members will ask you to fill out the trouble in the enclosure thread and answer the questions posted there to make their advise more precise to your scenario and enclosure. But if you do all these things right, your baby should be eating soon . It might seem a little overwhelming at first, but it turns out pretty simple.

I do use eco earth. i have like an inch or half an inch thick. I had tiny pieces of moss before but took most of them out. There are still tiny pieces. All my water is dechlorinated she night temp.pring water. I feed him dusted calcium+vitamin D crickets. My temperature is around 80-88 f and i dont know the night temp. i have a half log as a hidy hole and a fake plant for security. i dont have any wallpapers. can i just use green colored paper on the sides?

Save one animal and it doesn't change the world, but it surely changes the world for that one animal!

i do believe it is ornate because the horns are tiny. I can see tiny hints of read next to the eyes and lower back body. If i can see a pic of your enclosure that would be nice, i want to see what you have so i can add to what i need.

It looks like a Cranwelli. You can check to see if it has the false eye spots (Only Ornates have those - one dot behind each eye) but s/he does not appear to have the ornate markings or skull structure.

I cover two of my sides with that green terrarium carpet. I use a jungle. Backround for the third and largest side.
