I am new to Frog Forum. I am hoping someone can help me out.
About a week ago I collected 14 tadpoles from a drainage ditch near our home. There were TONS of them. I was worried that most wouldn't make it due to the dry conditions here in central Texas. That and I thought it would be fun for my 3 & 4 year old sons to what the metamorphosis of the tadpoles.
Of the 14, I now have 8 toadlets, 2 tadpoles have died and the rest are still in process. After many hours of searching the net, I have typed them as Gulf Coast Toads.
My intension was to release these back to the wild. This is to keep with the teaching of my boys' favorite show that has the tag line, "Living free and in the wild." My question(s) are when should I release the toadlets back to the wild and where should this be done for best survival results?
Thank you in advance for your help.
Once they have left the water you can release them back into the wild. But I personally would raise them for a few months which would give them a better chance of survival. Toads are very easy to raise as long as you have the correct set up for them. Frog Forum - Toad Basics - Keeping ground-dwelling Toads. A care sheet for Bufo, Anaxyrus, Spea, Scaphiopus, Ollotis, Alytes, Pelobates Also good food choices are flightless fruit flies, pinhead crickets & newly hatched roaches. Don't feed a lot of meal worms, they can cause impaction. Try to stick with softer shelled feeders.

Hello and welcome to the forum.
It's wonderful raising and letting them go. We've done the same.
Would it be okay if I ask how your tad tank is set up? You may be able to keep the last few going.
Tank set-up? Water used? Food? Etc. I can help if you'd like?![]()
