Thread: Enclosure tops.

    Default Enclosure tops.

My hygrotherm is making my reptifogger go off constantly every two minutes been up since 3:30am its now 4:46am. I have 2/3 of the top screen seran wrapped off to preserve humidity. I'm going to have to block off more. Was wondering if you guys could post a couple pictures of your enclosure lids so I can get a few ideas on how I'm going to mount my heating lights without melting anything in the process. As always thanks for the help!

I use a glass aquarium top, works well to keep heat/humidity in. I prop up the lid using a gallon jug cap or an eraser to adjust airflow depending on the tank readings.

I use screened tops but I cover about almost 3/4s of it with plastic wrap. I only have to manually mist maybe once per day because the humidity really stays in there. I'm able to cover that much because my exo terra is 18x18x12 and has another vent in the front door for ventilation.

I have my heat/daylight lamps sitting on top yet using a dimmer lamp with a beam bulb to control the amount of heat it projects. It works out pretty well, I was having the same problem as you do but the plastic wrap helped a lot. Remember that when you first set up the enclosure after doing the maintenance temperatures do seem to be off for a couple of hours until the UTH/bulb/humidity stabilize.

If you are going to place your lamps on top of your screened lid( if that's what you are using) just make sure your tank is big enough so the lamp doesn't light up the whole place, have a fake plants for shade and get a dimmer lamp. Dimmer lamps are awesome!

Oh, and don't place them on top of the plastic hahaha!

yep that's right, cover more of your top with wrap. personally I prefer foil over wrap that i duck tape to screen top, this way i save on heating too. i have a few low exo tanks, both have tops are 5/6 covered with foil. i live in very low humidity, that is why i did it, but 3/4 should work. just play around and see what works.

Went out and got sone plexiglass. I cut it to where there is an inch on both sides along with 1/4 inch holes every inch for a third of the piece. I have the screen on top of that with my heating lamps. Ill post a picture in a bit. I hope its enough ventilation. If not ill drill some more holes up top.

Hopefully the heat lamps won't warp the plexiglass too much. If they do its back to brain storming.
