Toad Catching Tips?

So Im trying to get a male Anerican Toad for my female but toads are hard to find where I live. (I had to go a couple miles to catch my female because I live in the suburbs of Chicago.) I checked my cousins house because they live in the country and they always had them in theyre backyard but they or me (bad grammar there) cant find them this year. So, do you have any tips on catching American toads?

Look at night, and look around bodies of water. I do not mean right up on the bank, just make sure there is a water source. This is the season. I have tons around my place.

Hm. I'll have to try when I go over to their house again this summer. They have a creek like a mile from there backyard but we never see toads they're nor any animal except for minnows in it. And they'res a beaver dam in it.

I just went to a local creek here and there fresh morphed froglets all over the place lol

I do not agree with taking adults from the wild since the chances of getting to that stag is very slim. I suggest gathering a few toadlets that just morphed, raise them for a few months until you can determine you have a male, then release the rest back where you got them from. This way not only do you get your male, but you help a few other have a greater chance to make it to adulthood.

I've had my toad for a couple months now and next month I'll have had her for a year. She's 2.5 inches long now but when I got her she was less than an inch long. Does this mean I got her when she was a toadlet?

The way I see it is you're allowed one error or ignorance is bliss. Now you know & you can just move forward. Most people don't think about the mortality rate of frogs and toads and will remove breeding stock from the wild without even thinking that removing one breeder can/will reduce thousands of future offspring. Last year we caught several toadlets, raised them for a few months, then released them back in the wild. It's a great feeling.

Man... American toads are everywhere where I live. I can walk out side and see tons of babies with at least three or four full growns hoppin around my drive way eating bugs. Kinda wish they would pack up and move to the neighbors house. My dogs will grab them and get slimed by the toads. I do my best to keep my dogs from them because of the toad defence mechanism. I dont like seeing my dogs getting slimed, and I don't like seeing frogs hurt. They are great little bug hunters. My wife and I were really suprised that people keep them as pets because they are so common here.
