    Default Using quail as feeders

There are a lot of people in my area that breed quail so they are fairly cheap.
I'm going to start buying chicks from a local hatchery to use as a staple food for Keroro since nightcrawlers bore him and roaches no longer make a dent in his appetite. I have read that nutritionally they are very healthy and better for them than chickens. However I'm wondering how often I should feed these to him. Was thinking once a week? I'm sure he would eat many more than that given the chance, but I don't want him getting obese.

Is there anyone here who uses quail chicks as a staple who would like to chime in?

I actually breed them. I got the idea from another member here. I use them as an occasional treat instead of a fuzzy. You are right, they are more nutritious than chicken or mice. When they hatch they are 9 grams, then grow a gram a day. I would not use them as a staple though.

If anyone needs quail chicks, i'll give them for free.

These are sizes from newly hatched to a 5 day old. You can see how large they become in such a short period of time. I personally do not enjoy feeding them off, and only really do so on a bad hatch. The humidity in the incubator has to be very exact to soften up the egg for them to break out. Sometimes they need to be assisted. On occasion they have curled feet or straddle leg, and it's only right to cull them and feed them off. Name: IMG_6876.jpg
