Hi guys, I'm Jon from New York. I've always kept small fish, had in interest in hamsters, mice, and tarantulas at one point. i had two small african dwarf frogs when i was maybe 10
Last year in august, I found a toad at a nearby park and took him home. Completely new to amphibians, i put some earthworms, rollypollys, a beetle, and a rock in a small container that i previously had (about 4"w x 7"l x 5"h). unfortunately he didn't eat for i think three days, and i didn't want him to die. so i let him go in my backyard. before i did, i took some pictures and put them up on another forum, found out he was a fowler's toad, learned that he needed a water dish and needed the same care as american toads (which there's much more info about).
about a month later, as i was mowing the lawn, i saw something jump. i turned off my lawnmower and there it was again, just bigger. i took him home, put him in the same container, bought him crickets. he's been eating healthy and doing fine with his tankmate (a garden snail). i've been meaning to move him into a 10 gallon tank that i have lying around but have never found the time. plus he doesn't seem to mind his dwellings even though unfortunately there is no soil. i find it easier to wash the container without anything in it. i guess that makes me a bad owner
also, i let him swim around in my bathroom sink every 2-3 days so he has some exercise and also to help him poop. i'm not sure if this is the right thing to do when taking care of a toad/frog, but it seems to work.
just yesterday, i found what i think is a bullfrog living in a well by my house where i have a vent for a u-trap located, hoping to find more information on this forum about it.
anyways that's my story, by far the longest introductory post i have ever made on any forums.'
edit: oh yeah pictures! i knew i forgot something.
when i first found him:
