I would recommend taking that gravel out, if he accidently grabs a piece of it going for a cricket it will definitely cause an impaction. I would put a layer of coco fiber (aka eco - earth) over the gravel. If there is a deep water section you can use gravel there but not anywhere near where he will be hunting
